The banana diet was created by Dr Hitoshi Watanabe and his wife Sumiko during 2008, and since the first day made a big impression, as the authors argue that consuming only bananas and lukewarm water for breakfast leads to weight loss regardless of what is consumed during the rest of the day.

Based on

They claim that the banana diet can work and bring quick results, because this fruit has the ability to improve digestion and increase metabolism. Another possibility is that bananas are rich in resistant starch, which is a type of fiber that can give the feeling of fullness and may prevent the absorption of some carbohydrates.

The water should be at room temperature because it improves digestion and reduces hunger.

Diet Plan

The diet is extremely simple, and many Japanese who followed it reported rapid weight loss. But deciding to follow a diet like that you should also adapt the general diet standards followed by Japanese.

Whoever wants to ensure his health and reduce his weight, must receive only as much food until feel 80% occupancy. In exceptional cases, it is allowed a piece of fruit. Dairy products and alcohol are not allowed while sleeping should start before midnight. The rationale behind this advice is that scientific studies show a link between sleep deprivation and obesity.

Breakfast

One or more bananas (until you feel complete)

A glass water (room temperature)

Lunch

Lunch of your choice, low in calories and cooked in a hygienic manner.(eg, grilled chicken breast and steamed vegetables)

Afternoon

A small snack around 3pm (only in case of severe hunger.)

Dinner

Lunch of your choice, low in calories and cooked in a hygienic manner, but must be eaten before 8pm.

Benefits

• Eat breakfast every day may increase metabolism and reduce the likelihood of overeating during the day.

• Avoiding caffeine in the morning can lead to more stable blood glucose levels and hence reduced appetite.

• Eating before 8pm the process of digestion is completed before sleep.

• Avoiding dairy and dessert, we avoid fat and sugar. This reduces the total calories taken daily.

• Bananas are a nutritious food and high in fiber, vitamins B6, C and potassium.

• It discourages over-eating.

Disadvantages

• Some people can not respond well to a breakfast consisting purely of carbohydrates.

• It is easy to be fooled and to consume excess calories at lunch and dinner.

Conclusion

Even if the banana is not as terrible as to increase metabolism, it is likely following the rules of this Japanese diet, such as eating only at certain times of day and avoiding desserts to bring very good results.

This will lead to a reduction in calories to promote weight loss, if of course you do not consume excess calories in other meals.
