In regards with getting fat there is one general rule: Weight gain is caused when the total energy we receive is greater than the one consumed!
This "energy balance" even though it depends from the basal metabolism of anyone, but is independent of the source of calorie intake (does not matter they come from, ie, fats, proteins or carbohydrates). From this perspective, the added sugar-containing in fizzy drinks, can not by themselves cause weight gain or obesity. In other words, the subject of nutrition, is not talking about 'good' and 'bad foods, but' good 'or' bad 'diet! So, if we follow a daily balanced diet based on foods rich in nutrients, to meet the basic needs of our organization, we can include in it and the refreshment of our liking - confident enough to take care to always maintain the our energy balance. Alternative, especially if you follow a diet aimed at weight loss is to choose the beverage that we want the light version, which contains minimal calories!
